Requirements for South Africans
To order foreign exchange, the following documentation is required:
- A valid
passport
- Proof
of travel arrangements: Flight tickets and hotel accommodation
- Green
bar-coded identity document or temporary resident permit
- Proof
of residential address: Utility bill not older than three months
Discretionary Allowances
A discretionary allowance is designed for the payment of
travel expenses, gifts, donations and maintenance. The amount of money that
individuals are allowed to transfer out of the country is governed by the South
African Reserve Bank.
Current exchange control limits for South African residents
over the age of 18 is R1 million per annum.
